Former Star Talks Amicable AEW Departure: Wrestling Legend Reflects on AEW Tenure

Kia Stevens, renowned in the wrestling world as Awesome Kong, has opened up about her departure from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), describing it as amicable. In a recent interview, Stevens expressed gratitude towards AEW for their support during her tenure.

Awesome Kong’s AEW Journey

Awesome Kong made her AEW debut in 2019, quickly becoming a prominent figure in the women’s division. She aligned with Brandi Rhodes to form the Nightmare Collective, a faction that added depth to AEW’s storytelling. However, her in-ring appearances became sporadic due to commitments with the Netflix series “GLOW” and health considerations.

Departure Details

In the interview, Stevens revealed that her departure from AEW was mutual and without animosity. She praised AEW for their understanding and continued financial support during her absence, stating, “They paid me way longer than I thought they would or should. God bless ’em, forever.”

Post-AEW Career and Legacy

After leaving AEW, Awesome Kong announced her retirement from professional wrestling at NWA’s EmPowerrr event in August 2021. She was later inducted into the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame, cementing her legacy as a trailblazer in women’s wrestling.
