Backstage News: WWE NXT Battleground Plans Before Ethan Page Signing

Former AEW and Impact Wrestling star Ethan Page shocked fans with his unexpected debut on WWE NXT last week.

Attacking NXT Champion Trick Williams and revealing himself as the mastermind behind the recent attacks on Meta-Four, Page has made an immediate impact.

This debut, however, led to significant changes in the original plans for the upcoming WWE NXT Battleground event.

Original Plans for NXT Battleground

Noam Dar’s Intended Challenge

According to a report on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meta-Four’s Noam Dar was initially slated to challenge Trick Williams for the NXT Championship at Battleground.

Dave Meltzer confirmed this, stating, “Noam was originally going to [challenge Williams at Battleground] and he’s out.” The scheduled main event was set to feature Trick Williams versus Noam Dar, a match that fans were eagerly anticipating.

Reasons Behind the Change

The sudden change in plans has led to speculation about the reasons behind Dar’s removal from the match. Meltzer suggested that Dar might have been injured, as he was written off TV.

Another possibility is that WWE decided to pull Dar from the event to accommodate Ethan Page’s availability, making his debut more impactful. However, Meltzer leans towards an injury being the primary reason for this shift.

Ethan Page’s WWE Journey

Departure from AEW

Ethan Page’s WWE debut came shortly after the expiration of his AEW contract. His final match in AEW was against Kenny Omega on an episode of AEW Collision in December.

This match was particularly notable as it was Omega’s last before being diagnosed with diverticulitis, which has kept him out of action since.

Denial of WWE Contract Signing

Despite his impactful debut, Ethan Page has denied signing a contract with WWE.

This denial appears to be part of the storyline development between Page and Williams.

Page mentioned that he is awaiting a call from NXT officials for a potential match, hinting that their rivalry will continue at Battleground.
