Bobby Lashley Reflects on Gunther Feud Pitch and Street Profits Split

Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley recently opened up about the backlash he faced for pitching a storyline involving Gunther and his plans to split from The Street Profits. Now an AEW star, Lashley shared his thoughts on his WWE career during an interview on The Lame Guys podcast.

Controversial Gunther Feud Idea

Lashley revealed that he pitched a storyline with Gunther that explored deep themes, including cultural dynamics. However, the idea received significant backlash, with critics interpreting it as controversial. Lashley explained:

“I guess I took a little heat because some people thought I was suggesting something racial. It wasn’t like that at all. It was about creating an interesting dynamic on TV. Some ideas in wrestling are meant to push boundaries in creative ways, but people ran with it the wrong way.”

Lashley emphasized his frustration with online reactions, particularly from outlets looking for controversy:

“A lot of people are looking for drama. It’s unfortunate because I’m confident in my intentions and what I bring to the table.”

Lashley’s Vision for The Street Profits

Before leaving WWE, Lashley envisioned a storyline that would see Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins turn on him. The idea was to elevate both stars and help them establish themselves as breakout talents.

“I wanted a feud with both Montez and Dawkins, leading to them taking me out. They’re so talented, and I thought it was a great way to go out.”

Lashley also expressed a desire to work with other WWE stars like Austin Theory, LA Knight, and others in meaningful programs.

Moving Forward in AEW

Although these ideas didn’t materialize in WWE, Lashley is now focused on his AEW career with The Hurt Syndicate. His reflections highlight his commitment to helping others shine while delivering compelling storylines. Fans can only wonder how his ideas might have changed the trajectory of WWE storylines.

Stay tuned for Lashley’s ongoing journey in AEW and his contributions to wrestling’s evolving landscape.
