ECW Legend Addresses The Undertaker’s Snub for Major WrestleMania Match
Rob Van Dam recently discussed The Undertaker’s decision to face Ric Flair at WrestleMania 18 instead of him, sharing his thoughts on the missed opportunity.
During a recent episode of his 1 of a Kind podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam (RVD) opened up about The Undertaker’s decision to choose Ric Flair over him for a match at WrestleMania 18. This revelation came after The Undertaker disclosed on his Six Feet Under podcast that Vince McMahon had offered him a choice between facing RVD or Flair.
Despite having high praise for RVD, The Undertaker opted for Flair, which even surprised Vince McMahon. The Deadman explained, “For me, it’s Ric Flair. At WrestleMania? Are you kidding me? I want Flair.” Undertaker’s reasoning stemmed from his desire to share the ring with a wrestling icon like Flair at the grandest stage of them all.
RVD’s Reaction to The Snub
RVD took the decision in stride and reflected on the experience during his podcast. He noted that while he would have loved the opportunity to face The Undertaker, he understood why Flair was the preferred choice. RVD acknowledged the significance of wrestling a legend like Flair, saying it was likely a “bucket list kind of thing” for The Undertaker.
At WrestleMania 18, RVD went on to face William Regal, where he won the Intercontinental Championship. Despite not squaring off against The Undertaker, RVD described this moment as an “awesome memory” and expressed no regrets.
A Missed Classic?
Fans have long speculated on what a match between RVD and The Undertaker at WrestleMania would have looked like. RVD humorously suggested that it might have involved him being “thrown around like a ragdoll” before pulling off one of his signature moves, the Van Daminator.
Legacy and Respect
While the match never happened, RVD’s respect for The Undertaker remains unwavering. His victory over Regal and his overall WrestleMania 18 experience are cherished memories that solidify his legacy in WWE.
