Triple H’s Character Direction for Star on WWE SmackDown Revealed

Nick Aldis, the General Manager of WWE SmackDown, has opened up about the advice and character direction he received from Triple H upon stepping into his new role. Since debuting as SmackDown GM in October 2023, Aldis has become a pivotal figure on the blue brand, with storylines involving top WWE stars like Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, AJ Styles, and Randy Orton.

Triple H’s Vision for a Different General Manager

Speaking on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Aldis shared how WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H encouraged him to break away from the traditional “authority figure” archetype. Triple H emphasized creating a character that would stand apart from the insecure or power-hungry personas often associated with General Managers in the past.

Aldis explained:

“He said, ‘I want this to be different. Your General Manager shtick is not gonna be the typical authority figure we’ve seen in the past.’ He wanted me to be more calm, collected, and all business, which I felt aligned with my own instincts.”

Aldis’ Approach to the Role

Based on Triple H’s guidance, Aldis crafted a portrayal that balances professionalism with authenticity. He highlighted the collaborative process, noting that while he initially understood the direction Triple H envisioned, there was “a lot of coaching involved” to refine the role.

Since taking on the GM position, Aldis has been featured prominently in SmackDown’s storylines, including an in-ring segment with Cody Rhodes tied to Kevin Owens’ ongoing feud. This evolution in WWE’s approach to authority figures has been well-received by fans, adding depth to SmackDown’s presentation.

The Future of Nick Aldis in WWE

With Triple H’s backing and a fresh take on the GM role, Nick Aldis is poised to continue shaping SmackDown as a dynamic and engaging authority figure. Fans are eager to see how his character evolves and contributes to future storylines involving SmackDown’s top talent.

Aldis’ role underscores WWE’s commitment to reinventing classic tropes, keeping its product innovative and engaging for viewers worldwide.
